The Trump court

President Trump has a message for Democrats when it comes to judicial appointments, he does not need them. And he is packing the bench from the Supreme Court to the small claims court.

The Daily Signal reported Trump has nominated more judges in his first 200 days than Clinton, Bush 43, or Obama did.

From the Daily Signal:
To date, Trump has nominated 44 federal judges and scored eight confirmations, including Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.
Eleven of the president’s nominations are to circuit courts and 23 are to district courts. The nine others are to specialty courts such as the Court of Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and the U.S. Tax Court.
He is doing this by ignoring the tradition of selecting nominees in a particular state from a list that the state's U.S. senators recommend.

From the Daily Signal:
Trump has taken some criticism for not filling executive branch jobs more quickly. But the same cannot be said for appointments to the judiciary, as he is also surpassing Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton in the first 200 days.
Trump entered office Jan. 20 with 105 judicial vacancies, about twice as many as Obama’s 54 openings. And more judges have left the bench over the last half year, bringing the current number of vacancies to 138.
Not appointing an undersecretary of transgender policy is not a priority.

Filling those 138 lifetime posts is.

Trump can rein in judicial abuse one district judge at a time -- and one circuit judge, too.

Harry Reid ended the ability to filibuster a judicial appointment, which means all Trump needs are 50 votes (Pence would then break the tie).

Carrie Severino, chief counsel and policy director of the the conservative group Judicial Crisis Network, told the Daily Signal: “President Trump and his allies in the Senate campaigned on the promise to remake our federal courts, and Senate Democrats are once again proving that they will do just about anything to keep liberal extremists in control of our courts.”

At this point in the post, I am supposed to rub the noses of Never Trumpers in this.

But why?

Who are they?

Fake Conservatives who tricked us into thinking they cared.

Meh.

  1. And the Senate, meanwhile, is working their asses off for us by...convening for daily pro forma sessions. Utter shullbit. As Prof Glenn likes to say, they're the worst political class in American history.

  2. Don, they show they care when they block you on Twitter or get one booted off RedState. They make the argument we would have been better under Madam President Hillary.

Maybe I am just too simple to understand, but I don't follow that.

At least until the public demands term limits.

  4. Perhaps some of the leftie-leaning judges will read the handwriting on the wall and fade away gracefully into retirement. That would give President Trump even more judicial positions to fill. - Elric

  6. We cannot trust them or the media when they tell us they are conservative. We have to believe our own lying eyes.
